Descending Fire 28,
*With the sun gone down the behind the horizon and the moon rising to light their way, a duo of women approached in a horse-drawn cart up to the walls of Imperveress. The older of the two, though she was by no means elderly, rolled up a scroll as they neared and tucked it in the long box strapped to her back. Her black hair was short and set in a fluffier cut though the grey-brown dust of travel clung to it in some places. Her skin was lightly-tanned, like someone who spent a lot of time inside, and despite the fact that she was traveling, she wore a long strapless dress with a cord cinching the middle. The jacket she wore over it was long and had many pocket, some of which looked pretty full*
*sitting in the cart next to her, chatting away enthusiastically with wild gesticulations was a girl in her teenage years with alabaster-white skin that almost glowed in the moonlight. Her hooded traveling cloak was draped across her lap now that she didn't need to hide her skin from the sun. Part of her hand was an angry blistered red where she had failed to protect her delicate skin from the heat of the sun. Her hair was grayish-white, but perhaps her most startling feature was her eyes. The right one was a pale shade of orange that glowed softly, and the left one a brilliant green that seemed to sparkle at the contact with light. In her nose was a crimson jewel that looked like a crystallized droplet of blood. Despite the piece of jewelry, her clothes were plain and almost boring, suited well for long journeys*

* With a soft hum, a shot of golden light jumped from the manse, quickly solidifying into the form of a tall southeastern man dressed in fine silks studded with nuggets of orichalcum and embroidered with jewels. The construct bowed to the two women and smiled before addressing them*
" Hello travelers.. I am Sentinel, and welcome to Imperveress... The Mighty Empire! Now then.. tell me, why you have come here strangers?"

Descending Fire 28,
From travelers to strangers to residents. That's our goal for the course of this journey. My name is Rena Breeze and this is my sister, Pale Transcendence. So, what say you, shining golden guard?
*something crossed her face and her eyes twinkled as she quickly pulled out a piece of scrap paper and a quill, scribbling furiously for a few seconds and, seemingly satisfied, turned her smile back to the AI*
And, Sentinel, how do you feel about becoming a main character? One of these days soon I'd like to have a long chat with you

* he looked at them with puzzlement, not understanding exactly what she meant by 'main character', but accepted it none the less*
" Oh... yes.. thats fine.... but as for becoming residents, you will need to speak with Emperor Ress about that. Continue on into the manse, take the stairs downward untill you reach the waterways. A dragon boat will be waiting to take you. Please enjoy your stay"

Descending Fire 28,
Alright, we'll do that. And, Mr. Sentinel, we'll be in touch
*Rena winked at him and guided their horse into the empire, highly amused with her newest project*
*Pale Transcendence raised a light eyebrow at her sister and grimaced*
That poor man, now don't you turn him into anything freaky or slutty. Though slutty could be fun..
*she wiggled her eyebrows at Rena*
Can I be in it? Hey, we could get started right now. Let's go find a house, I bet that emperor would have no idea if we never actually went to see him. We could live low like you wanted, and I could get us any money we need
*The older sister laughed a little before sighing and shook her head*
I wish, sister, I wish. It doesn't work that way, though, if I want to make it here. My name needs to be well known and that means I can't hide from the emperor. So, off to that incredibly tall, glittering golden manse in the distance.. It must be good to be king..
*loading the horse onto the boat was the hardest part, but it was easy sailing after that. They left their horse and cart in the courtyard and hunted through the manse until they stumbled on Ress's meeting room*

* Ress stood before a great console with many holographic screens showing many statistics about different facets of the empire. The Emperor wore exquisite robes made from silk which looked exactly like the garment that Sentinel wore, orichalcum beads and all. He bowed to the two, then motioned for them to sit. two chairs floating from the side and rested behind them to sit, should they choose to*
" Welcome travelers! I am Emperor Ress, and this is my Empire. I have been told that you two would like to live here. I have also been told that one of you is a Scion. Now then... I have some particulars should you wish to live here in Imperveress. This meeting here is so we might negotiate what you would want in return for working for me. Now the ball is in your court!"

Descending Fire 28,
*Pale Transcendence snickered and sat down, focusing her attention on Ress and his shiny Orichalcum beads*
Scion.. keke.. So, Emperor? Mister? Ress? Are you going to whore my sister out like the other Dynasts would?
*her eyes flashed with a bit of biting anger at her comment, her tone going instantly from teasing to dark*
Transcendence! That's not appropriate, and you don't know that. Besides,
*her gaze darted downward and away for a moment before hardening and refocusing on her sister*
if I can secure us a good life, for you, that way; I will. Now let me choose my own fate..
*Rena turned back to Ress and shook her head*
Yes, Mela's lifeblood courses through my veins. To be honest, I'd really rather not work for you if it means being forced to marry. I've seen your advertisements and am not keen on the stretch marks getting married would result in
*she chuckled a little, trying to lighten the mood her sister had dumped on the room*
I am a writer by trade, and I can write anything in any language in any viewpoint on almost any subject. I'm working on upgrading that last part to just 'any' soon. What I don't know I research. It may sound funny, but despite my serpentine aspect I am happy with my mostly-simple successful life. We are mostly here so that my sister can grow up in peace
*a shrug went through Rena's shoulders*
So, do we need take this any farther?

* Ress turned his hovering chair around and sat down, leaning back before he heaved a sigh and answered the questions posed*
" Whoring anyone out is an abhorrent concept to me and I will not never indulge in it for as long as I live.... and like the Dynasts? We are nothing like them here.....
A writer you say?"
* He sat forward, placing his hands on his knees, his straight face now bending into a smile*
" What sort of writer?... because I may have use of one..... but to answer your question... and husbad you would take would be your own choice... I will not force you to marry anyone"

Well, with that settled, I write everything, what do you need?

*the door opened and a shock of seafoam-green hair bound in a number of hair stick accessories appeared, followed by the face of the woman attached to it*
Oops! Sorry to interrupt! What are you talking about?

* Ress opened his mouth to speak, when the woman walked in on their negotiations. thinking fast, Ress smiled and motioned for her to enter*
"Oh! come on in Dri! You should be here for this."
* He nodded, then turned back to the two* " I just needed to be sure you could work through any medium. But like I said... what is it you want in return for working for me"

Descending Fire 28,
Oh? Well, then. Is this something important or are you just trying to make sure I see a positive side of you?
*she grinned at Ress, half teasing him. She liked the emperor well enough, for now. He seemed like a well-meaning guy, but she was by nature somewhat paranoid and had a healthy dose of suspicion in her. Walking in the rest of the way, Dri settled against a wall and drank in the new ladies. Her eyes lingered in Pale Transcendence and was fixated on her for a moment before she went back to observing the scene as a whole*
*Rena gave the interrupter a funny look but looked back at Ress*
Should I want something specific? My thought process was that I was going to come here, introduce myself, and take Transcendence to go find a place to buy a home and live out our lives there. Why would I get something in return for that? If I was working for you, then I would want adequate compensation based on what I was doing for you. If you need some sort of serialization like a newspaper, I can do that and put it in any language you need. I figure you probably have a diverse group here, what with being a melting pot and all.
Did your playwright have a baby and you need someone to entertain the masses? A renown author has a medical condition and she needs a ghost writer? The town crier fell ill and he needs someone who can speak multiple languages? You need a treaty reviewed but you can't read Old Realm?

* he blinked a few times at the accusation of him needing to look good to the empire... though that was not completely false. he cleared his throat, took a breath and dove right into this interrogation that was meant to be negotiations*
" For one, I wanted this to be documented so the public can know what goes on here in these negotiations... and to answer the question as to why you need to make these negotiations, it is due to the fact that as a Scion, I will need to be able to contact you at a moment's notice should things go awry. If a problem should arise that is more than a mortal can handle, I will be coming to you. You will also be required to at some time, pick a husband and produce children. Now that I am less obtuse, perhaps you can think of what you would like in return for these services."

*Dri reached into her pocket and pulled out a notebook and pen, writing notes as the conversation continued. She was amused at Ress's discomfort, but that would keep him honest. She had said she would either be his best friend or his worst nightmare....*
Well, I can't guarantee anything about husbands and kids. I didn't exactly ask to be a Dragon Blooded, so this whole concept of being a baby factory doesn't really appeal to me. As for the helping the empire at a moment's notice, I'll do the best I can, though I'm not sure how a writer could help.. Linguistically speaking, however, I could see it. I digress. If I find someone compatible with me, and we grow comfortable and even fall in love, then sure, I'll marry, but I can't guarantee it. I don't feel comfortable making a deal based on something I can't guarantee, since I don't want to be at fault breaking for a contract. Does that make sense? Everything else is fine, I will do what I can to help, but matters of the heart and loins aren't something unavoidable

" oh?... well then.. in a hypothetical situation where all that comes to pass.. where I call on you occasionally for moderate to difficult work, then you meet and fall in love with another dragon-blooded of an appropriate nature and feel secure enough to have a family.... how much is that worth to you?... it can be in possessions, silver, jade or privileges... just put a price upon it please."
* Ress began getting annoyed, mostly because he made sure these negotiations were simple as possible, and though he loved negotiations... he hated chatter.*
