Ascending earth, 16
*Ress stood at the shore of the yellow river, tapping his leather boot impatiently upon one of the smooth wave beaten stones. He heaved an annoyed sigh, then called out once more* Salt gods! I have been pleasant long enough. Come to me, lest I summon you by less desirable means!.... * after another good long bout of silence. Ress became fed up with such disrespect and reached for the steel pot and pile of sticks at his feet. He scooped up some of the salty sea water and placed it atop a pile of carefully arranged stones. he placed the sticks about the rocks and lit them, tending it carefully until the flame became a hearty bonfire. It took a few hours, but soon enough, the water was gone and replaced with a few handfuls of salt. Ress smirked as he looked out at the shore.. watching and waiting... all at once, three tiny two foot humanoid deities made from crystal lept from the waves, holding viscous spears made from sharpened shells. They hissed as they rushed for Ress, murderous intent in their eyes. A shaft of light appeared before Ress as he summoned his bow from his right bracer, and in a single motion, readied two arrows and shot them into the chests of the little deities. The arrows began sprouting green vines and quickly turned the two salt gods into large potato plants, shaped like salt gods. The single remaining salt god stopped in its tracks, looked at its comrades, who's bodies were now food... and dropped to one knee* "I am sorry, Prince of Earth... I did not recognize you... w-what is it I can do for you?" *Ress smiled, calming himself now that things were finally going his way* " Gather your ilk and have them return here within the hour... I feel I have waited long enough" * Without another word, the salt god lept back into the water, departing to fulfill this request... and within the hour, returned with up wards of forty salt gods, all confused, but standing at attention out of fear for this reborn Solar* " As you all know... the Empire of Imperveress is growing... and with growth.. we need salt.. this is why I called you all here. I know how you gods operate and I am happy to offer you all the equivalent of one tenth a dinar per quintal of salt taken in monthly." * The Salt gods began chattering angrily at the offer... though none piped up to give a better offer* "Oh? You feel your salt is worth more huh?... then how about two tenths a dinar?" * Still, the gods chattered and hissed, insulted by the offer. Ress began feeling annoyed.. it was them who stood him up for so long and it was them who were not helping find a medium... he gritted his teeth and heaved a sigh, trying not to let this get in the way of negotiations*".... alright.. three tenths dinar per quintal.. I find that to be more than generous. " * The salt gods continued right on with their chattering.. unsatisfied with the offer. Ress had enough of this, drew his bow and shot two more in the chest with his bow, this time, only one of them became a potato plant and the other simply fell over lifeless* " I have been more than patient, you greedy sawed off spirits!... if you are too good to accept such an offer, then perhaps Myself and my people declare war upon the salt gods... we will pick you off one by one as fast as you can reform... just taking your precious salt by the bucket full while you all struggle just to keep yourselves in one piece! Now then.... How do you feel now about my generous and perhaps godly offer.. three tenths of a diner and your immortality per quintal, monthly?" * The salt gods looked frightened.. their greed now washed away, knowing full well the strength of an angry exalt. They agreed, knowing what was to come next.. they all held their hands out, waiting for Ress to sanctify the oath. Without another word, Ress took their hands, and in a flash of pale golden essence, sanctified the oath* " There.. at the first of each month, you will get your three tenths a Dinar per quintal..... be glad I am such a forgiving ruler.... otherwise I would be saving money by hunting you all down" * Without another word, he turned around and made his way to the city to inform everyone of the new customs. He was annoyed by the greed of such petty deities.. but happy that now Imperveress had a staple for banking... A Salt Rate* ( 1 quintal of salt goes for 2 bits/4 dinar
