Resplendent Fire 2,
*With the return of Urser and his trials successfully completed, it was time for him to take the road all of her other young Lunars had gone down. Thirteen Feathers had taught her the process for Dargo, and she had done it for the others and now it was Urser's turn. In order to have the proper ink for his tattoos, Arachnia was off getting the Moonsilver. The full moon was coming up soon and she needed to be ready by then.
It was a requirement of hers that all Lunars on her lands need to be tattooed, and technically that made them a part of the Silver Pact, but it was ultimately better for them overall. At least this way they could shift as much as they needed to and not become Chimerae; this was one Empress who was not interested in having to put down a Chimera that was once hers. She would do it if necessary, of course, but it was easier if she didn't have to at all.
When she had been given Elder status someone should have taught her the tattoo rituals, but somehow that had gotten looked over, not that she was surprised since that had been most of her experience with the Silver Pact, but she had thought that they had at least more decency than to "forget" and have her at the mercy of Thirteen Feathers' benevolence. Sure, the woman had said she owed her nothing and that she was only doing her job, but it was a matter of respect and manners that she be repaid, and so she would, as soon as she could figure out how.
Maybe they hadn't thought she could do this from the start. Perhaps giving her Elder status was only a joke that all of the other Elders were privy to and she was the punchline. While Arachnia gathered the materials she needed for the ink she fumed, almost dropping it all and botching the whole process. Her eyes widened at the near miss and she took a moment to breath deeply. She had always been suspicious of this sudden rise to power, but she couldn't let them get to her. If they expected her to fail, then they could just be disappointed. And if they would be delighted to call her a success story, one of those tales of people put against all odds turning out much better than the snarky people back home had thought, then she would make sure that they couldn't take credit for any of it.
On top of all of the ridiculous and senseless intrigue she was sensing from the Pact, she still had to keep an eye out for her mentor's reincarnation. He had to be somewhere, and perhaps she had a way to find him, whatever the form he may have taken. The more Arachnia thought about the situation, the more she found herself happy about it, and her plan began to unfold. She wouldn't destroy the Silver Pact, it was a good concept and did its job well, but the Elders were getting more eccentric and paranoid by the decade, and that was not something that the rest of the organization should allow to happen. In time something would happen, but she had to prepare first, and this empire was going to help her do it*
